On a cloudy but warm evening, 93 senior riders took to the field at the inaugural meeting of the Hog Hill Summer series.
The event covered 3 catagories: Elite/1/2, 3rd/4th and Women only.
One hard hour at this challenging course produced some fast circuits from the Elite/1/2 riders. Mostly staying together in the bunch, to break out on the final accent of the Hoggenburg, with Dan Pattern, Magnus Maximus, crossing the line just ahead of Richard Hoult, London Dynamo.
The Women’s race winner Nikki Juniper, Glendene CC, rode a lonely race out the front and on her own, no bunch for her to hide in. Good performances from Anna Grundy, East London Velo and Liz Chitterden. Eagle RC, who fought each other the whole race, with Anna narrowly crossing the line ahead.
The 3/4 race had several breaks, George Pearl, a junior rider with Southend Wheelers, attempting to get away early. He was pulled back the brunch which stayed mainly together for a final sprint of some 30 riders for the line. George came through to 2nd place, narrowly beaten by Adam French, East London Velo.
A good, accident free, meeting with 12 more weeks of racing to come
