Press Release: East London Velo – the new name for Team Economic Energy
East London Vélo Press Release – 1 Jan 2009
www.eastlondonvelo.cc
East London Vélo is the new name for Team Economic Energy, one of the most active cycling clubs in the Eastern Region. With the current sponsorship arrangement with Economic Energy due to expire at the beginning of the 2009 racing season the club is entering a new phase in its growth and development. We would like to thank Economic Energy, our previous sponsor, for all their support and helping the club move to where it is now.
We will continue to be actively involved in all aspects of cycling including road racing, time trialling and track with the occasional foray into off road riding. East London Vélo will also continue to promote a healthy number of events including Winter Series races, Saturday Club coaching Sessions, regular club runs, an open time trial, a road race, and our relaxed and informal Friday evening 10 mile time trials. Look out too for our new summer evening circuit race series at Redbridge Cycle Circuit (aka Hog Hill).
East London Vélo is proud to be Clubmark accredited, and is actively involved in bringing new people into cycling with a particular emphasis on youth riders. The club regularly runs coaching sessions at Redbridge Cycling Centre including introductory sessions for youth riders who wish to experience the excitement and thrill of racing on two wheels. We are also looking to develop and promote women’s’ cycling in the region which is not always adequately catered for.
The club is grass roots focused with members ranging from beginners to experienced road riders all united with a passion for competitive cycling – please see our website www.eastlondonvelo.cc for contact details and information about upcoming events. 2009 promises to be an exciting year for the club – come and join us!
Team Economic Energy – dropping our old name
Team Economic Energy was the creation of John Carden and Leslie Everest in 2000. Economic Energy Ltd is owned by John Carden. John chaired the club as well as sponsoring the team. At the AGM in December 2008 John Carden was not re-elected to the chair. The club also adopted a more comprehensive constitution and voted to change its name to East London Vélo. Economic Energy Ltd has since declined to renew its sponsorship. Leslie Everest continues in her role as Secretary of East London Vélo.
